According to a recent press interview with The Hollywood Report, Daisy Ridley is being eyed to play Lara Croft in a fresh and new Tomb Raider film. Ridley confirmed the accredited validity of the claim and stated that the discussions are ongoing and that she’s simply just sitting and waiting for someone to say “Yes, we want you. Let’s make it happen.”

In addition, Ridley noted that the film is in the very early stages of pre-production and has yet to even include a storyline or draft of any script, but she’s extremely optimistic and ready to immediately accept and take on the role if offered. She informed that even with the incredibly busy schedule centered around filming Star Wars Episode VIII, she has additional time and will make so, should she be extended the role. Plus, due to Tomb Raider still being in preliminary development, there is still much time to nail down a shooting schedule.

“Yes. We want you. Let’s make it happen.”

It’s hard to forget the adorable friendship and relationship that developed between Finn (John Boyega) and Rey (Daisy Ridley) on screen in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, and this is definitely one friendship that didn’t remain solely on the big screen. When Boyega first learned of the possible consideration of Ridley for the role of Croft he wholeheartedly began supporting and backing her in every way possible, encouraging her to take on the role. He admitted that he personally had eyed Ridley to play the role of the iconic archeologist-adventurer, being able to see her portraying the role perfectly as she ventures into ancient caves, hazardous tombs, and ruins around the world.

“I played Tomb Raider the game, it’s a new take and I think the movies are going to be based on that version,” stated Boyega in a recent interview with THR. “But I texted Daisy [and] was like, ‘this is you!’ and ‘you need to get on that because you could be Lara Croft.’ She should be.”

In the game and film, Croft travels the world searching for forgotten and lost ancient artifacts, frequently finding herself head-to-head with dangerous and deadly monsters and occasionally amongst supernatural situations. There have been multiple games in the franchise since the first initial launch in 1993, with the most recent being, Rise of the Tomb Raider, which was released last year on Xbox 360 and Xbox One (PlayStation 4 and PC versions are set to release this year). The franchise has sold over 45 million games to date worldwide, making it one of the most successful and best-selling video game franchises ever made.

Additional information in relation to Tomb Raider has yet to be released, but we’ll make sure to update on the news as it does, keeping you informed on this highly anticipated new film.
