In celebration of the 64th annual BMI Pop Awards set to take place on May 10, at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, former-country-turned-pop music icon Taylor Swift will be honored with an esteemed award bearing her name; The Taylor Swift Award.
The ceremony and event will be hosted by none other than BMI President & CEO, Mike O’Neill, who will be accompanied by BMI Vice President of Writer & Publisher Relations, Barbara Cane.
“We felt it appropriate to award Taylor with an honor that is as unique and special as she is,” Crane admitted.
This signifies the second and only other time in the performing rights organization’s impressive 76-year history they’ve bestowed an award emitting a famous musician’s name; the first being Michael Jackson in 1990.
Crane reported that “Taylor Swift has transformed pop culture through her songs, artistry and indomitable spirit. She has had a profound impact, not only musically, but also through her personal conviction and commitment to present a standard that values and respects music for everyone.
Swift will also be joined as an exemplary honoree by the profound and notable songwriting creatives, Barry Man and Cynthia Weil, who are set to receive the BMI Icon Award for their lasting and memorable input to the art of songwriting.
“The evening is a true celebration of music and a tribute to the artistry of songwriting that spans generations as defined by three of the most prolific and influential music creators in the industry: Taylor Swift, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil,” Mike O’Neill added.
In addition, the private event will also observe and recognize the talented and creative publishers and songwriters from the past year’s highest ranked and appreciated pop songs within the United States. During the event the monumental music corporation plans to also announce winners of the BMI Pop Song, Songwriter, and Publisher of the year awards, selected from their profound represented musical titles.
Ten-time GRAMMY winner, Taylor Swift, is the youngest awardee in music industry history to receive the highest, most notable honor of receiving the GRAMMY Award for Album of the Year; being also the only female to win not once, but twice. Swift also holds the title as the first single artist since the Beatles, being also the only female in music history to hold the No. 1 spot on Billboard charts for more than six weeks, with three successive albums.
While her notoriety and presence amongst the music industry may seem effortless, Taylor Swift has made her prestigious presence upon modern day music and has effected the progression of the industry in a miraculous way. We cannot think of anyone more deserving of such an illustrious award than the adored and favored, Taylor Swift.
