The writers of Game of Thrones are notorious for throwing hidden secrets among their costumes, plots, and scripts. But, did you catch the subtle backlash delivered to Petyr ‘Littlefinger’ Baelish during his meeting with Bran Stark, ‘The Three-Eyed Raven?’

The nod references a quote from Season 3, titled ‘The Climb,’ referring to the moment that Jon Snow and his team of Wildlings’ must scale the treacherous and icy, jagged edges of the Wall.

During his discussion with his fellow, at the time, ‘sharer of secrets,’ Varys, ‘Littlefinger,’ is found privately sitting next to the Iron Throne, meticulously admiring the construction of its bountiful plethora of blades. He then educates Spider that, “Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder,” and his intent to take advantage of every step on it is definitely made known.

Now, catching up with the most recently aired episode 4, of Season 7, appropriately titled ‘The Spoils of War,’ we see Baelish in his once again manipulative state, sitting across from Bran Stark. It’s obvious to see that his attempt to once again win over a house of nobles is very prominent, while he attempts to be seemingly empathetic with Bran.

“I imagine you’ve seen things most men wouldn’t want to believe. To go through all of that and make your way home again only to find such chaos in the world, I can hardly imagine,” Baelish states in his poor attempt at sympathizing with the newly returned Stark.

As they discuss a popular blade that potentially holds its own strong history among the series, ‘Littlefinger’ then provides the blade to Bran, informing him that it happens to be, in fact, the very blade that was used in the attempted assassination of his life. Though, Bran’s response is still calm and unchanged by the gesture as he issues the perfect dialogue in return, “Chaos is a ladder,” he interrupts, definitely taking Baelish by surprise. It’s apparent he wasn’t prepared for Bran’s perfect response.
